ControlPoint manages the Network 9 Routing HUB and standaloneequipment by providing a point-and-click graphical user interface forchassis management and internal segment connections. ControlPointprovides a detailed GUI representation of Xyplex hubs, routers, switchesand access servers for both standalone and chassis-based products.BY creating a chassis icon on the MAP the user can start RemoteView, aXyplex GUI application that will auto-discover devices located within thehib and populate the MAP with all devices found in the hub. The GUIitself will poll all devices in the hub or standalone devices and providea visual means for identifying device, port, and power supply status. InAddition Xyplex Discover can be launched to populate the MAP with Xyplexdevices located throughout the network.For detailed management, ControlPoint provides the followingapplications:- Status and Configuration-- a GUI that provides predefined easy-to-read
views of all read-only and read/write parameters available for the deviceunder management. Several views can be opened at once and the displayfields can be continuously polled or modified. In addition users can alsodesign their own custom views.- Network 9 and Standalone Device GUI (RemoteView)-- launched from a
Xyplex icon located on the SunNet Manager MAP, a GUI representation forall standalone devices and/or Network 9 chassis is displayed whichprovides detailed configuration and fault management for Xyplex devices.- Slot Connections GUI-- a drag-and-drop GUI that allows the user to
change internal or external slot connections for all Network 9products.- Guided Router Configuration-- A GUI application that will guide the
user through all aspects of router configuration.- Remote Network Monitoring (RMON)-- A GUI application that guides the
user through setting up RMON thresholds on Xyplex hubs and routers. Thisapplication also provides graphing of selected RMON statistics.- Aggregates and Templates-- a GUI application which is based on the
file manager model. A template is used to create configuration and/orfault management templates which can then be applied to one or severaldevices. An aggregate is a collection of devices that can be managed asa single entity.ControlPoint is integrated with SNM so that any trap or event will belogged to SNM, providing a visual representation on the MAP. In addition,all commands are available from the SNM pull-down menu as well as theXyplex RemoteView application. ControlPoint Version 3.0 provides networkmanagement support running on SunNet Manager version 2.2 for both Solaris1.x and Solaris 2.x (Solaris 2.x currently uses SUN Binary ComputabilityMode, native operation will be available Q2 '95).
